Upcoming Workshops


All spring workshops are six weeks starting mid-late April.
Pre-registration is required for all courses except Fitness for Actors.
Early Bird registration rates run through April 9.

All pricing includes the entire workshop and any materials provided. BTI has the right to cancel any workshop that does not meet minimum registration requirements. In the event of a cancellation, pre-paid registrants will be refunded.

 

Spring (April-May 2018)

 

Playwriting and Directing (Senior Youth)

With the help of a professional script writer, students will work on pieces of writing they’ve already drafted to create and develop an advanced original one-act play, as well as explore the basics of directing their work.Participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to submit their scripts for the chance to be performed in the Youth One-Act Festival, July 5-7, 2018. Upon registering for this course, prior to the first class, participants will receive an activity worksheet that must be provided to the instructor on the first day of class. This activity will help writers get creative and have ideas to bring to the class.

Voice II (Youth)

Continuing from the fall, instructor Zachary Covington will help student develop the basic skills of healthy tone production. Focus skills include posture, breath control, free-tone production, vocal support, ear training and artistry. All students should be prepared to sing in groups and individually.

Building an Audition Portfolio (Adult, 15+)

What does it take to win your next audition? This workshop will teach you techniques used by acting professionals, including choosing the right song and monologue, preparing a resume, cold reading, voice projection, filling out paperwork, interacting with auditors, and dance audition tips.

When: Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 | starting April 18

Improv-ination (Children)

This class will focus on using improv and imagination to introduce students to the wonderful world of theatre! Encouraged for children at any level of experience, this class will truly be an introduction to the theatre and all of the ways in which it can help build self- esteem, confidence and teamwork through ensemble building. We will use warm-ups and theatre games to explore our vocal and physical instrument as well as the ways in which our imaginations can unlock skills that can be called upon throughout the rest of our lives.

When: Saturdays, 9:00-10:00am | starting April 21

Fitness for Actors (Adult, 15+)

Acting can be considered sport if you think about how physical a show is sometimes. Instructor Joni Hulse is an expert in getting people motivated and moving – and she is no stranger to what it takes to be on stage. She uses floor drumming, dancing, and lots of cardio to help individuals achieve a great workout without getting bored. Her classes require no experience, and will help anyone, actors and non-actors alike, condition their bodies.

When: Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 | starting April 24

What is Barrow Theatre Institute (BTI)?

Barrow Theatre Institute is an arts education program providing after-school/work and weekend workshops for all ages. Classes will be offered in all areas of performing and creative arts – such as audition preparation, stage presence, musical theater dance, voice, acting, technical theater, playwriting and creative writing, public speaking, and more – all taught by experienced professionals. All classes take place at the Barrow-Civic Theatre unless otherwise directed. Our mission is to use an array of artistic exploration opportunities to enrich and empower individuals of all ages through high-quality creative arts education.
